At first glance, Flexfab is known for its global leadership in high-performance silicone hose, tubing, and ducting. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll discover a company with a deep sense of social responsibility and strong community values.
That commitment to giving back is embodied in the Douglas A. & Margaret E. DeCamp Foundation, established in 2007 by Flexfab’s founders. Guided by the values in the Flexfab Company Creed—including service to the community, civic improvement, education, and environmental stewardship—the Foundation has become a catalyst for change in Barry County and the greater West Michigan region.
“The goal has never been to be the sole funder,” shared Jim Decamp, who now oversees the foundation’s work. “We aim to spark something—if we give, we hope it inspires others to give too.”
This “springboard” mentality has launched a variety of programs and partnerships. From supporting robotics and culinary arts in local schools to backing the Kickstart to Careers program—where every kindergartener in Barry County receives a $50 savings account—the Foundation works to empower the next generation and encourage lifelong learning.
One of the most celebrated recent projects was transforming a once-vacant high school into The Village Flats, a 20-unit affordable housing complex serving families in Nashville, Michigan. The building held personal significance: it was where Doug and Margaret DeCamp themselves once walked the halls as students in the 1950s.
For Jim, some of the most meaningful moments come from hands-on service. Flexfab employees regularly volunteer in the community—painting, landscaping, or doing light repairs at local non-profits. “We get to step out of our roles and serve side by side,” he says. “It’s uplifting—and the gratitude we receive in return is humbling.”
Working with organizations like the Barry Community Foundation, United Way, YMCA, and the Commission on Aging, the DeCamp Foundation continues to have an impact. At its core, it’s about being people-focused—more than just silicone hose. It’s about creating a ripple effect of generosity in the community Flexfab has always called home.
