Aztec Machine & Repair, an IDCO member located in Bloomfield, NM, offers complete machining and fabrication for industrial, oil and gas, and mining applications. It specializes in hydraulic and industrial repair, both within its shop and in the field. Aztec is a smaller, but very active IDCO member. It has participated in all IDCO events since joining the co-op in 2013. The result? Aztec has achieved very strong growth by increasing sales by 62% with IDCO suppliers in 2019. This significant growth can be attributed to a number of things that Aztec has done differently since joining IDCO.
According to Larry Bacon, Retail Sales Manager for Aztec, the firm has increasingly been focused on using IDCO suppliers first (namely Novaflex, NRP Jones, Campbell, Samson and Precision Hose) before attempting to source products and parts elsewhere.
“We’ve learned that in most cases, we will receive a better price on comparable products when working within the IDCO network. We’ve also been more receptive to the expert guidance offered by IDCO suppliers,” Larry said.
“They all have been helpful in different ways – some have recommended the best hose, pump, or fitting for a project or a specific customer’s needs, while others have helped by answering product questions so we can better serve our customers and sales team,” Larry added.
IDCO played an important role in the company’s sales growth, mostly because of the pricing it received from its venders or other IDCO members. With IDCO by its side, Aztec has been able to compete against larger companies without having to carry a large inventory. This has been especially advantageous in the slowing economy that it has been experiencing.
When asked what he believes is the most valuable part of being an IDCO member, Larry responded, “The blast email. It allows us to look for a product that we might not stock or set-up with customers, such as hose fittings. It’s especially helpful when a customer only needs a small quantity or only a short length of hose. It saves us from having to buy a full roll or a large quantity and then stock it.”
