IDCO names Skip Bruce Chairman of Product Advisory Committee

Skip Bruce Headshot

We’d like to welcome Skip Bruce from Catawba Rubber to the IDCO team. Skip will serve as Chairman of the IDCO Product Advisory Committee (PAC), a group comprised of 15 product experts that work together to enhance the co-op’s overall product offering. The PAC actively pursues new product opportunities while evaluating potential new suppliers and current suppliers for market competitiveness and quality standards.

Skip was introduced to the hose and rubber industry 40 years ago while he was still in high school. He took a warehouse job at Catawba Industrial Rubber Company, Inc. in Charlotte, NC and remained there until he headed off to college in 1980. But his work ethic and potential did not go unnoticed.

Four years later, George Carver (founder of Catawba) convinced Skip to come back to work full time and to finish his degree (a BS in Finance from UNC Charlotte) with night classes. It was George’s vision for Skip to eventually take over the bookkeeping and financial duties for the organization. Skip worked shifts in accounting and inside sales until 1990, when he was promoted to full time controller.

In the mid-1990s, Skip was once again promoted, this time to Vice President of Catawba Rubber. He purchased Catawba and Coastal Hose from George in 1999 and has owned and operated the company for the past 20 years.

“Catawba has been a member of both NAHAD and IDCO from the very beginning of both organizations. I’m honored and humbled by this opportunity to serve IDCO.”

Skip also served on the NAHAD board for seven years and was President of NAHAD from 2016-2017. We’re thrilled to have an industry-expert with more than 40 years of experience at the helm of the IDCO PAC.
